2024 Summer Trends

Each Summer brings a wave of excitement over new innovations and trends we’ll see in the retail industry sector, driven by evolving customer preference and expectations. 2024 will be no different, with advancements in technology and a heightened focus on sustainability. Here, Three Point Design founder and MD, Adam Gillott, explains the key trends to watch out for in the retails landscape this summer.

Sustainability and Ethical Practices will take centre stage, and continue to grow as consumers make the conscious decision to shop more responsibly, which is driving them to prioritise environmentally friendly and ethically sourced products. Retailers have been responding by adopting better sustainable practices from use of biodegradable packing, offering better selections of eco-friendly product lines, and reducing their carbon footprint. Brands too are communicating their own commitment to sustainability and are gaining a competitive advantage, with more shoppers switching to companies that align to their own values.

Technology and Digital advancements are transforming the retail landscape. Ai is being used to help better management of supply chains and inventory, to enhance customer service, including virtual assistance and more intuitive chatbots. The fusion of online and offline shopping is becoming more seamless and retailers are enhancing their omnichannel strategies, ensuring customers enjoy a unified experience both in store and online. Both AR and VR are becoming more mainstream, allowing customers to visualise their next purchase.

Health and Wellness has been a growing sector post pandemic, with retailers giving more emphasis on health and wellness, whilst expanding their product range, offerings and promoting both physical and mental well-being. There is a growing demand for products that promote wellbeing which includes supplements, fitness gear, health apps, as well as organic foods, and holistic lifestyle solutions.

Personalised Shopper Experiences are redefining customer engagement, with a greater demand for recommendations and bespoke shopper services. Retailers are harvesting data analytics to tailor offerings to individual preferences.  Subscription services are also gaining popularity, providing customers with curated selections based on their preferences.

Second hand and Resale Market is booming as customers become more conscious of waste and the circular economy.  Some retailers are partnering with resale platforms, or launching their own second hand sections to cater for the growing demand in pre-owned and vintage items.

Experiential Retail is creating memorable and immersive shopping experiences, which is a key trend for 2024. Retailers are designing stores that go beyond traditional shopping, incorporating elements such as live demonstrations, interactive displays, community events, workshops and pop-up shops. Themed retail spaces are also popular, offering unique and engaging experiences that attract foot traffic and encourage social sharing, and customers to engage with brands on a deeper level.

These trends highlight a dynamic summer ahead in retail, with a deeper connection with customers evolving needs and values.
