Giant Bin Coffee Cups

Fueling the Day, the McCafé Way

When McDonald’s wanted to make a bold visual statement for their McCafé promotion, they turned to us to bring their idea to life – and larger than life! The brief was simple: design, manufacture, deliver, and install a series of giant factice coffee cups that would stop people in their tracks. What followed was a full-service creative and production collaboration that spanned concept to installation.

The Challenge:
McDonald’s needed oversized McCafé coffee cups that looked as authentic as the real thing – but bigger, and with the functionality of a bin! These sculptural elements needed to be visually striking, highly durable for both indoor and outdoor use, and delivered on a tight timeline for simultaneous rollout across multiple high-traffic locations.

Our approach:
We kicked off with a collaborative design phase, working closely with McDonald’s marketing/brand teams to ensure the factice cups matched brand specifications. Once designs were approved, we moved into prototyping – with little testing (as we have become pioneers producing these activations) we made sure to create a strong and robust structure that could withstand the elements and repeated handling.

Production and manufacturing:
The manufacturing process comprised of printed polycarbonate wrap with vacuum formed ABS lid, steel internal frame and base with wheels – allowing this to be manoeuvrable. With the use of this manufacturing processes allows for product longevity. We maintained McDonald’s exact brand standards, replicating everything from logo placement to the signature cup lid product design. The lid had a circular entrance hole for customers to use as a bin.

Delivery & installation:
Logistics played a critical role. We managed delivery to multiple sites across London Franchise sites, ensuring each unit arrived in pristine condition. Our team also handled on-site installation, and allowance for no disruption to McDonald’s operations and ensuring each cup was securely positioned and photo ready.

The impact:
The result was eye-catching, and ‘Instagrammable’ that drove footfall and customer engagement across all locations. McDonald’s reported increased awareness around their McCafé line, with these locations seeing a spike in beverage sales during the campaign window.

This project is a testament to what can be achieved when creative vision and meticulous execution come together.
